Old Royal Oak

The pub is the Fownes Tap house and is around 300 years old. It used to incorporate a cell for holding prisoners. This unusual half-timbered 3-storey, end-terrace pub, one of the oldest hostelries in the town, has had something of a chequered history but has now settled down under Fownes stewardship.

They serve three Fownes ales and three other changing ales, sometimes just other Fownes beers. Real cider is available here.

The inside is open plan, a product of previous incarnations. Some old oak beams have been retained towards the back.

Food is served here, and is stone-baked pizzas Friday and Saturdays, 5pm - 8pm.

There is no garden, just a few few tables and chairs at the front.

Dog are welcome.

There is a function room here for hire upstairs.

Most Friday and Saturday evenings there is live music, and occasionally Sunday afternoon.
